APW – Otay Watch Co, Otay, California, 15J, 18S, 5-year gold-filled HC recase with bird engraving on rear, white enamel SS impressed dial, SW-LS, gilt mvt, s#30066. This scarce and short-lived southern California maker was only in production from May to November of 1890, with a total output of about 1200 watches made. Please note that the preceding lot is the consecutive serial number (s#30065) to this example which offers the collector a rare opportunity to own a pair of consecutive serial numbers from this scarce maker. Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance is gummy, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, missing regulator spring, few spots and fine scratches on plates, few minuscule specks of oxide on regulator; dial has hl from 11 to center, hl from center into seconds-register, very faint hl near 3, some fine scratches at signature, some small flakes at center hole; fine hands have oxide; case shows little wear, few fine scratches on front and rear, scratches on cuvette, few small darkened areas on front and rear, no dents or dings, numerous small nicks on band, excellent engraving detail, brassy bezel; tight bow with slightly brassy underside, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
